Job Title: Home Textiles Product Developer & Designer

Position Summary
We are a leading home textiles wholesale company supplying private label and branded programs to major North American retailers. We are seeking a commercially driven Product Developer & Designer who can create trend-right, cost-effective, and retailer-focused home textile collections while managing the full development lifecycle from concept to production.
This role requires a strong understanding of U.S. and Canadian retail standards, pricing structures, compliance requirements, and private label development.
Key Responsibilities1. Retail-Focused Product Design & Development
- Design and develop seasonal and core programs in bedding, bath, window, kitchen textiles, decorative pillows, and throws.
- Translate retailer briefs, line plans, and target price architecture into commercially viable products.
- Develop private label collections aligned with retailer brand DNA and consumer demographics.
- Create detailed tech packs including construction details, fabric specs, labeling requirements, and packaging guidelines.
- Ensure products meet required margin targets and FOB pricing expectations.
2. Costing & Margin Management
- Work closely with merchandising and sourcing teams to engineer products to target costs.
- Understand retailer markup structures and margin expectations.
- Participate in value engineering and alternative material proposals to maintain competitiveness.
- Review and approve costing sheets with factories.
3. Vendor & Factory Collaboration
- Coordinate with overseas factories (Asia, India, Pakistan, etc.) on sampling and bulk production.
- Review lab dips, strike-offs, proto samples, PP samples, and TOP samples.
- Provide clear technical feedback to ensure production readiness and quality consistency.
- Monitor development calendars to meet retailer milestone dates.
4. Compliance & Quality Standards (North America Focus)
- Ensure products meet U.S. and Canadian regulatory requirements including:
- Flammability standards
- Fiber content labeling
- Care labeling regulations
- CPSIA requirements (for applicable categories)
- Collaborate with QA teams to ensure testing compliance and product performance standards (colorfastness, shrinkage, pilling, etc.).
5. Trend Research & Retail Analysis
- Conduct market research across major North American retailers.
- Analyze competitive assortments, pricing tiers, and promotional strategies.
- Present seasonal trend decks, mood boards, and assortment strategies to internal teams and retail buyers.
- Stay updated on home décor trends, consumer insights, and sustainability demands.
6. Packaging & Retail Readiness
- Develop packaging concepts suitable for big-box, specialty, and online retail environments.
- Ensure packaging meets retailer sustainability initiatives and shipping standards.
- Collaborate on PDQs, shelf-ready packaging, and e-commerce presentation requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design, Product Development, or related field.
- 4–8 years of experience in home textiles, preferably with wholesale/export suppliers serving North American retailers.
- Strong knowledge of bedding construction, bath textiles, woven and knit fabrications.
- Experience working with overseas factories.
- Strong costing knowledge and ability to design to target price.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and PLM systems.
- Strong understanding of U.S./Canada compliance requirements.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with large North American retailers (private label programs).
- Knowledge of sustainable certifications (OEKO-TEX, GRS, Organic Cotton).
- Experience in high-volume production environments.
