Position Overview
Source Machine is a growing precision CNC machining company in Edmonton, Alberta. We are looking for experienced CNC Machinist Lead Hands to join our manufacturing team across multiple shifts.
This is a hands-on leadership position for experienced machinists who are comfortable setting up, programming, troubleshooting, and overseeing multiple CNC machines and operators.
Lead Hands will typically be responsible for a machining cell of approximately 4–6 CNC machines, ensuring jobs are properly set up, production stays on schedule, quality requirements are maintained, and operators have the technical support they need.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, program, and prove out CNC machining operations
- Oversee approximately 4–6 CNC machines within an assigned machining cell
- Support and direct CNC operators and developing machinists
- Plan and coordinate setups, tooling, workholding, and machine requirements
- Perform first-off setups and work with Quality to achieve first article approval
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications
- Make program edits and optimize machining processes
- Troubleshoot tooling, programming, workholding, dimensional, and machining issues
- Monitor production output and ensure jobs remain on schedule
- Verify operators are completing required in-process inspections and production documentation
- Ensure proper job handoff and communication between shifts
- Train and mentor less experienced machinists
- Maintain high standards for quality, organization, safety, and housekeeping
- Work closely with manufacturing management, department supervisors, programming, and Quality
Qualifications
- 5+ years of CNC machining experience preferred
- Strong CNC setup and troubleshooting experience
- Ability to independently take a job from drawing through setup and production
- CNC programming and program-editing experience
- Strong understanding of tooling, feeds and speeds, workholding, and machining processes
- Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
- Experience performing precision inspection using micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and other measuring equipment
- Previous experience leading, mentoring, or supporting other machinists is preferred
- Ability to manage priorities across several machines and jobs simultaneously
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Journeyman Machinist certification is an asset
Equipment & Controls
Source Machine operates a large and diverse CNC machining department, including:
- CNC lathes and machining centers
- Multi-axis and live-tool equipment
- Mazak / Mazatrol
- Doosan / Fanuc
- Haas
- 3-, 4-, and 5-axis machining equipment
Experience with Mazak, Mazatrol, Fanuc, or similar CNC controls is an asset, but experience with our exact equipment is not required.
Available Shifts
Positions may be available across:
- Day Shift
- Afternoon / Night Shift
- Weekend Shift
Shift placement will depend on experience, department requirements, and candidate availability.
What We're Looking For
This position is best suited to a machinist who wants to remain hands-on technically while taking on additional leadership responsibility.
You should be comfortable jumping into a difficult setup, troubleshooting a machine, making programming changes, helping another machinist, and then ensuring the rest of your machining cell continues moving.
We are looking for Lead Hands who take ownership of quality, productivity, training, organization, and communication within their assigned area.

Pay: $33.00-$45.00 per hour
