Job Description:
For over 20 years, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital (CGMH), Georgian Bay General Hospital (GBGH), Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC) and Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) have been in partnership sharing a single Health Information System (HIS) – Meditech. This group has come to be known as the “Regional IT Partnership”.
The primary purpose of this partnership is to improve patient safety and quality of care by promoting, implementing and maintaining a one patient, one record vision through a single shared HIS. The Regional IT Partnership has identified information and technology as a key pillar to support a safe and efficient patient experience while driving clinical excellence. We are excited to be preparing for the implementation of a new health information system (Meditech Expanse) that will bring together a team of skilled clinical experts and stakeholders from the four partner hospitals.
Position Summary & Accountabilities
The Application Consultant is an integral member of the Regional IT Partnership and has a synergistic working relationship with clinical areas and stakeholders they support, ensuring collaboration and striving to improve workflow with system optimization. This challenging position seeks an individual who is self-directed, analytical, and organized in order to fill the role of Applications Consultant. This role involves working closely with internal programs and departments to determine business needs and the facilitation of effective solutions that are consistent with organizational goals and objectives. The role will support application development, operations and maintenance of on clinical and non-clinical systems. This position requires direct communication with other support services such as Informatics and Technology Services Service Desk staff, Innovation and Technology staff, clinical staff, functional experts, managers, project managers, and other support personnel. It is essential that commitments are maintained in a manner which fosters mutual trust between fellow employees. As an innovative and self-directed member of the team, you embrace accountability and encourage fellow team members to make innovative contributions and embrace new ideas to effect change and enhance quality. This role requires in-depth application knowledge of MEDITECH applications and the required integration for clinical success.
You must have access to reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license. You may be assigned to an alternate main site temporarily at the discretion of the Regional IT Partnership.
The Applications Consultant responsibilities include:
Coordinate and identify system and operating changes, tests and implements new features of software, problem analysis, daily quality checks and documentation, user support, education, training and ongoing maintenance of the application(s) and integration testing with other applications and systems
Responsible to investigate errors, diagnose problems and recommend solutions while collaborating with stakeholders
Responsible for the synchronization, implementation and documentation of all change management processes related to application(s)
Must be able to recognize problems and present solutions along with incident issue resolution and problem and change management skills
Provides the technical application skills required to successfully design, develop, deploy and maintain the technologies needed to satisfy user and applications strategies at a minimum cost and with maximum effectiveness
Collaborates with all appropriate stakeholders for downtimes, projects, upgrade testing and recovery processes
Supports, promotes and embraces change with a commitment to continuous quality improvement and system enhancements
Must be able to work effectively with Regional partners to optimize functionality and usability
Must be able to perform all essential duties of position description
Education & Experience
College Diploma/Degree Computer Sciences or programing, IT related field or relevant health care field experience
Minimum 5 years user experience in MEDITECH HCIS required
Minimum 2 years application consultant/Consultant experience required
ITIL certification an asset
HL7 training and/or certification an asset
MIRTH certified or trained an asset
LEAN trained an asset
Project Management & Eclipse training an asset
Completion Informatics Bootcamp an asset
Ability to effectively operate computer, software, and peripheral equipment, i.e. MS Office proficient and Internet Research capabilities
Experience and understanding of Change Management and Project Management philosophies and methodologies
Understanding of and experience with the principles of adult education through teaching and training
Experience with ITIL documentation required
Experience applying LEAN principles
