About Project Literacy Central Okanagan Society:
Project Literacy is a literacy charity providing free literacy programs for low-income adults,
immigrants, refugees, seniors, families, and children. We were established in 1986 and are the only literacy focused charity in the Central Okanagan.
We have a large volunteer base of over 100 volunteers and support over 200 individuals each year. Our programs take place at our Learning Centre, (107 – 2293 Leckie Road) at elementary schools throughout the Central Okanagan, and at KCR Community Resources.
Responsibilities:
· Instruct Pre LINC, Low-Literacy classes taking place for three, 12-week sessions between September 2026 and July 2027
· During each 12-week session, there are two afternoon classes, each class lasts 1.5 hours
· Follow submitted and agreed upon course guidelines
· Provide student testing at the end of each 12-week session
· Share test results and student success stories with the LINC Supervisor and the Director of Services
· Attend occasional meetings with the Director of Services, LINC supervisor and Project Literacy’s Executive Director
Hours:
15 hours per week for three, 12-week sessions per year between September and July.
Work schedule:
During each 12-week session, your schedule will be Tuesday to Thursday, 12
noon to 5pm for a total of 15 hours per week.
Required Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in education, ESL certificate, or equivalent education and experience.
· Minimum two years’ experience teaching English as a Second Language
· Experience with literacy assessment and evaluation strategies
· Training and experience in developing and following lesson plans
· Ability to work independently and cooperatively with others
· Strong Microsoft product skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
· Excellent spoken and written English
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills
· Ability to speak additional languages an asset
· Own transportation required
· Local travel required
Hourly rate: $28.70 per hour.
