The opportunity
Tata Steel Minerals Canada is currently seeking Plant Operators to join their highly skilled team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks On/Off with a standard 12 hours/day schedule, to and from the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville, QC.
The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake, Happy Valley-Goose Bay in NL, Halifax, NS, Moncton, NB, and Montreal and Quebec City, QC.
Reporting to the Plant Supervisor, the Plant Operator assists in the efficient day-to-day operation of the Process (Wet and Dry) Plants.
To be successful in this role you must possess a strong mechanical aptitude. Previous experience working within a refinery, pulp and paper mill, mineral processing or similar heavy industry work environment would be considered highly advantageous.
- Please note these are temporary positions, from May to end of October 2024, with the possibility of extension thereafter.
Responsibilities

Monitor, maintain and control all aspects of the processing equipment (crusher, conveyors systems, mobile screener etc.)

Ensure targeted production tonnage and quality are met;

Conduct pre-start and running checks of all equipment as required. Job clearance to be accepted after inspection, following repairs;

Ability to carry out manual labor tasks such as shovelling, cleaning and assist mechanics in maintenance.

Respond quickly to change in conditions, reporting conditions, always working effectively and safely;

Ensure good continuity of operations at shift changeover;

Work in any area of the plant performing any task for which the incumbent is qualified (including general plant cleaning) and as determined by shift supervisors.
In order to fulfill these responsibilities, you will be expected to manage and handle the following working conditions; A fast-paced environment, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, kneeling. It is to note that you will also be working at heights.
Your Profile

Grade 12 diploma supplemented by a Mineral Processing Technician diploma would be an asset;

2+ years’ experience in heavy industry or mining;

Ability to learn and gain a full understanding of plant flow sheets;

Able to work on site Fly-in/Fly-out Schedule.
