Ekko Performing Arts Society is looking for a new Violin/Fiddle Instructor to join our teaching team. The successful candidate must be available to teach Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings, with the potential to expand their teaching schedule as enrolment grows.

Ekko Performing Arts Society is a non-profit performing arts organization located in the heart of Downtown Dartmouth. Building on the foundation established by Ekko Mindful Music Studio in 2021, our organization is committed to creating positive, stress-free, inclusive, and welcoming opportunities for people to experience and participate in the performing arts.

The Position
We are seeking an engaging and enthusiastic Violin/Fiddle Instructor to provide private music instruction to students of various ages and skill levels.
The successful candidate should be comfortable teaching violin and/or fiddle from beginner through more advanced levels appropriate to their experience and training. An ability to teach a variety of musical styles and adapt lessons to students' individual interests and goals is strongly encouraged.
Lessons are primarily taught in person at our Downtown Dartmouth location, although occasional remote instruction may be required.
Applicants must be available Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. There may be opportunities to add additional teaching days or hours in the future as the instructor's student roster grows.
Requirements
- Advanced training and proficiency on violin/fiddle.
- A strong understanding of instrumental technique, musicianship, and music theory.
- Availability to teach Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.
- Ability to work with students of various ages, abilities, learning styles, and experience levels.
- A personable, patient, encouraging, and creative approach to teaching.
- Ability to connect and engage with students while creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
- An understanding of mindfulness and student-centred learning, and an appreciation for their role in music education.
- Comfort using Zoom and the ability to quickly learn scheduling, communication, and other technology used by Ekko.
- A recent and valid Vulnerable Sector Check must be provided and kept on file as required.
Assets
The following are considered assets but are not required:
- Previous private, classroom, or group music teaching experience.
- Experience teaching both classical violin and fiddle or other contemporary/traditional styles.
- Advanced training on a secondary teachable instrument, such as piano, guitar, or another string instrument.
- Experience working in customer service or other people-focused environments.
- Experience working with children, adults, and students from a variety of age groups.
- Experience supporting students with disabilities, neurodivergence, or different learning needs.
- French-language proficiency.
- Experience performing in ensembles, orchestras, bands, traditional music groups, or other collaborative settings.
We are particularly interested in instructors who believe that music education should be enjoyable, accessible, flexible, and responsive to each student's individual goals.
