Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Chiropodist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide specialized foot and lower limb care, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of foot-related conditions. This role involves working in clinical settings, hospitals, or home care environments, delivering compassionate patient care while utilizing advanced medical knowledge and technology. The Chiropodist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient treatment plans and promote optimal foot health.
Duties
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' foot health, including examining and diagnosing conditions related to foot and lower limb disorders.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including procedures such as wound care, orthotic fitting, and pain management strategies.
- Administer medications when appropriate, following medical protocols and ensuring patient safety.
- Perform minor surgical procedures related to foot care as needed.
- Educate patients on foot health maintenance, injury prevention, and proper footwear choices.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient histories, treatments, and progress using electronic health records such as Epic or Cerner systems.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Collect data for research purposes or quality improvement initiatives to enhance treatment outcomes.
- Provide home care services for patients requiring ongoing foot care in their residences.
- Assist in patient care management within hospital or outpatient settings, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and protocols.
Skills
- Proven experience in hospital settings with acute care exposure is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with electronic health record systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Experience in pain management techniques specific to podiatric conditions.
- Background in pediatrics or home care environments is a plus.
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
- Ability to perform clinical procedures accurately while maintaining high standards of safety and hygiene.
- Skills in research data collection and analysis to support evidence-based practice improvements.
- Competence in medication administration within scope of practice.
- Prior experience in medical office settings or outpatient clinics is advantageous.
