JUNIOR FLEET MECHANIC - Part time
TITLE: Junior Fleet Mechanic Part time
DEPARTMENT: Maintenance
REPORTS TO: Fleet Manager / General Manager
MAJOR FUNCTION: Maintenance and repair of company vehicles and equipment.
Pay: $30-34 per hour
Hours - Approx 20-25 hours weekly
POSITION SUMMARY:
Keeps company vehicles, on-location equipment, and plant equipment mechanically sound and in effective, safe operating condition and appearance.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Functional
- Maintains company vehicles and ensures they are in good running condition.
- Maintains on-location equipment in good running condition.
- Maintains plant equipment and ensures it is in good running condition.
- Performs routine upkeep on vehicles.
- Assists in preventive maintenance program for all trucks and equipment.
Also, to include: Daily Maintenance checklists and monthly truck audits
- Troubleshoots mechanical problems; has ability to identify and repair them.
- Assists on-road staff when break-downs occur.
- Assists in coordination of outsourcing of repairs as needed.
· Provides training to drivers regarding truck and equipment-related processes and daily maintenance that is required to be performed by the driver.
Other
- Follows all applicable legislation and policies for safe operation of vehicle and equipment. Complies with ICBC and Motor Vehicle Branch and other applicable legislation.
- Meets corporate standards for attendance and timeliness.
- Maintains effective working relationships and acts in a manner most beneficial to the company.
- Reports status of repairs to Fleet Mechanic / Fleet Manager.
· Maintains accurate and current maintenance files on all vehicles and equipment, including cost information (through software if available).
Under the direction of the Fleet Mechanic / Fleet Manager:
- Ensures truck bodies maintain a good appearance
- Ensures economical ordering of equipment, tools and supplies
- Prepares reports, records and documentation as required or assigned
- Works with management, drivers and ICBC to ensure timely completion of repairs following vehicle accidents
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High School completion or equivalent experience.
- Successful completion of the AST (Automotive Service Technician) Program.
- Minimum 2 years of vehicle maintenance and mechanical maintenance experience, including gasoline and preferably propane power systems.
- Experience with General Motors vehicles is beneficial.
- Basic computer skills including basic typing and using a web browser.
- BC driving license with acceptable driving record.

This position is moderately physical. There is extensive walking, standing, stooping, and bending. Traveling to each location requires the safe operation of a vehicle. Ability to work with computer keyboard, monitor and mouse for extended periods of time. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
