Position Overview
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating project activities, subcontractors, scheduling, record keeping, billings and liaising with the Client’s/Owner’s and Contract Administrator’s representatives.
Job responsibilities may vary and will be assigned based on the individual’s experience in tunnelling, shaft construction, sewer/watermain installation, and other relevant project management and estimating experience.
Job Function
- Work closely with the Project Manager and Site Supervisor to develop and execute the work in a planned manner.
- Coordination of construction activities (own forces, subcontractors, and suppliers)
- Maintaining daily project records including daily reports, site photos, extra work summaries, etc.
- Be familiar and up to date with the contract terms, drawings and specifications for the project.
- Dealing with Owner’s engineers and site representatives.
- Preparation and coordination of submittals, shop drawings, methodologies, etc.
- Collaboration with consultants and coordination of engineering designs, shop drawings preparation, and other submittals required for construction.
- Coordination and preparation of applications for permits and approvals, traffic control plans, utilities locates, etc.
- Site meeting attendance, participation and record keeping.
- Supporting the site management and estimating teams in pursuits of future work, preparation of budgets, procurement of materials, equipment and subcontract negations.
- Overall safety monitoring, compliance assurance and record keeping.
- Coordination with external safety consultants and auditors.
- Coordination of safety training in liaison with the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manager.
Education/Experience Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with eligibility to be certified as a Professional Engineer in Ontario is an asset.
- A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from a recognized institution or equivalent hands-on experience in the field.
- 2-year minimum project/site management experience in heavy construction is a requirement. Experience in tunnelling and shaft construction is preferred.
Other Skills/Abilities
- The ability to work with a wide variety of construction trades, engineers, inspectors and client’s representatives.
- Proficiency in software used daily in construction: Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, Primavera, Adobe, AutoCAD, HeavyJob or similar will be considered an asset.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work a full construction day up to 12 hours when necessary with the possibility of occasional night and/or weekend work being required.
- The physical capability of being able to frequently climb access ladders in shafts and enter tunnels.
- A vehicle and a valid driver’s license for work related travel.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be assessed on individual basis commensurate with the level of experience and education the candidate brings to the position.
