As a Safety Officer, you understand that safety is the number one priority. You will work alongside the General Manager of Operations as well as the Construction team to provide them with daily safety support. You are driven and motivated to be a part of our dynamic Multi-Family Construction team, supporting project including Westman Village, the only resort-style, all-inclusive community in Calgary. Located in the lake community of Mahogany, Westman Village is an expansive project. Currently four wood-frame condominium complexes are under construction, with more to come as the project progresses.

A day in the life of a Safety Officer:
  • Support the development of OHS policies and programs and train all employees. Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation
  • Assist in facilitating and coaching staff and trades on safe work practices, including the enforcement of wearing PPE
  • Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues
  • Hold trade partners and Jayman BUILT employees accountable to the adherence of company safety standards
  • Complete Safety Orientations with all new employees and trade partners
  • Ensure safe work practices, tool-box meetings, and hazard assessments are being completed as required
  • Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management
  • Develop and maintain good business relations with OH&S, Fire Department and other agencies having jurisdictions with health and safety
What you will bring to the table:
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a safety role
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or equivalent designation would be an asset
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Experience in the Multi-Family residential construction industry would be a significant asset
  • Experience providing accurate and timely reporting on safety activities to managers at all levels
  • Robust ability to adapt to continually shifting priorities
  • Sense of urgency, proactive nature and the ability to make judgment calls
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Thorough understanding of applicable legislation including OH&S, Building and Fire Codes
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Competence using computer software including Outlook, Word and Excel
