*Overview*
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team at our scrap yard. The successful candidate will operate a material handler to efficiently and safely manage scrap materials, ensuring optimal processing and storage. Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a material handler to lift, move, and place scrap materials in designated areas.
- Sort and separate materials by type and grade, following established procedures.
- Load and unload materials from trucks, trains, or other vehicles.
- Maintain accurate records of material receipts, processing, and storage.
- Collaborate with other team members to achieve production goals and ensure a safe working environment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on equipment, reporting any issues or concerns to management.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in training programs to improve skills and knowledge.
- Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot equipment issues
*Skills*
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment including Caterpillar machinery
- Experience with backhoe and loader operation
- Strong understanding of crane operations
- Commercial driving skills are a plus
Requirements:
- 2+ years of experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in a scrap yard or similar environment.
- Valid operator certification for material handlers (e.g., OSHA, manufacturer-specific).
- Strong knowledge of scrap materials, including types, grades, and handling procedures.
- Excellent spatial awareness, hand-eye coordination, and operating skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing time effectively.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Physical ability to work in a demanding environment, with occasional lifting, bending, and standing.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; industry-related training or certifications a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Outdoor work in a scrap yard environment, exposed to varying weather conditions.
- Frequent exposure to noise, dust, and heavy equipment.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots.

Pay: $28.00-$33.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 55 per week
