This position is a blended rural–tertiary role spanning Northern British Columbia’s only specialist Critical Care Unit at the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) in Prince George, and our smaller rural sites in the region.
UHNBC
The UHNBC component of this role includes general adult critical care in the only tertiary level ICU in northern BC, as well as separate coverage of the newly established UHNBC Cardiac Care Unit (CCU). This expansion reflects the increasing scope and complexity of the UHNBC cardiac patient population.
This work includes:
Direct management of ICU patients
Accepting and managing referrals from within the hospital and across the health region
Providing remote consultation and support to colleagues caring for critically unwell patients throughout the region
Additional responsibilities include physician coverage in the CCU, consisting of a combination of on-site and on-call responsibilities, and involving the management of patients presenting with acute cardiac pathology.
Other Sites in the Region – Responsibilities
Acute Internal Medicine and Critical Care coverage, depending on the site.
Commitment and Contract Details
The combined clinical commitment is equivalent to full-time, with on-site hours in addition to any on-call, MOCAP, or fee-for-service commitments.
This position is initially offered as a fixed-term contract, with the opportunity for extension by mutual agreement.
Qualifications
The position is open to candidates with:
Base specialty training in Internal Medicine
Fellowship level training in Critical Care Medicine
