SUMMARY

The Mechanical Manager - with proficiency in Fume Hoods and Exhaust Systems, will be a member of the professional services team. The candidate will support one of BGIS’s unique client operating laboratory systems in support of the delivery of various science programs. In collaboration with the Client’s representative and BGIS building operations teams, the incumbent will be responsible for developing a thorough understanding of science program’s needs, develop an inventory of fume hood and ancillary equipment, / and develop preventive and reliability centered maintenance programs, determine the appropriate fume hood performance standard applicable and coordinate annual verification of fume hoods The Incumbent is also responsible to oversee the fume hood verification work carried out by external contractors. is responsible for the development, implementation, deployment and ongoing management of the mechanical portion of the corporate critical environment program within the Public Works & Government Services client contract.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Observation and thorough examination of the fume hoods and storage areas including the enclosure, controls, sash, ducting, fans.
Assist with tracking of the maintenance performed using a professional database using unique identifying numbers for each fume hood.
Works in cooperation with site management, client team members and/or subcontractors to implement critical environment-specific operations and maintenance strategies.
Responsible to oversee that fume hoods and ensure that they have been tested and commissioned as per standards and guidelines and be able to provide recommendations.
Leads the implementation of the critical environment program - mechanical). Executes the critical environment strategy incooperation with the site operational team, critical subcontractors and the client’s team.
Ensures that all personnel associated with the critical sites are trained and competent in order to perform in a well-planned executed fashion, sharing in the sense of urgency surrounding mission critical operations and facilities.
Provides leadership, advice and expertise to meet all service level agreements, key performance indicators and facility uptime objectives.
Implements operations procedures, document management protocols, capacity planning, change management, risk mitigation support, disaster recovery support, incident reporting, point of delivery analysis, project design review, etc.
Executes account level quality insurance program and ensures delivery of services meets or exceeds the requirements set out in the statement of work of the contract and complies with internal BGIS policies and standard operating procedures.
Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients.
Participates in operational reviews and infrastructure risk assessments for critical environments as part of an ongoing risk reduction process.
Investigates and determines root cause of equipment failures.
Provides recommendations to clients for upgrading equipment and maintenance routines to reduce the risk of unplanned outages.
Researches through various networks for technological changes and industry best practices.
Leverages information technology, resources, and processes while delivering cost effective services

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or College Diploma with 7+ years of relevant experience and specialization in fume hoods and exhaust systems in laboratory environment; (e.g. P. Eng, CET, or equivalent courses)

JOB-RELATED EXPERIENCE: More than 3years, up to 5 years

Knowledge & Skills

Experience with commissioning of building automation systems;
Working knowledge of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS);
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards – such as NFCC, NFPA, ASME, API, ANSI, CSA, ASHRAE, Provincial and National Building Codes etc.;
Knowledge of HVAC Systems and Laboratory Design;
Ability to liaison with Authority Having Jurisdictions;
Strong communication and organizational skills;
Ability to manage competing priorities in fast paced environment;
Ability to work on several projects concurrently;
Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment;
Proficient with MS Office suite and with the use of National Master Specifications;
Maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff, and other employees;
Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills;
Prior customer interface experience;
Highly meticulous nature, strong attention to detail;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Proficiency with computer Tools.
Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) designation in good standing or a certified engineering technologist considered an asset.
Attended ASHRAE 110: Testing Workshop training (by U.S. Eagleson Institute), or Fume Hood Testing; Seminar for Certified Professionals (by National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB), or equivalent);
Fully cognizant of contents of MD 15128: Laboratory Fume Hoods and
Fully cognizant of contents of MD 15129: Perchloric Acid Fume Hoods;
Working knowledge of Z316.5-15 Fume hoods and associated exhaust systems
Bilingualism English/French is an asset
