As a junior environmental professional working for GES, your responsibilities will include the following:
· Collection of baseline biophysical data in marine, terrestrial, and freshwater environments as part of project Environmental Assessments and/or related monitoring;
· Environmental monitoring including performing surface water, groundwater, air, soil and/or sediment sampling for compliance and/or contaminated site assessment purposes;
· Calibration, maintenance, and use of field instrumentation including multiprobes, dataloggers, hydroacoustic equipment, etc.;
· Field data capture and laboratory data management, analysis, and interpretation, including technical report writing;
· Support freshwater and marine habitat characterization assessments and monitoring;
· Permitting support and environmental monitoring, including contributing to Construction and Environmental Management Plans;
· Adherence to company and client Health and Safety and Quality Assurance / Quality Control programs;
· Travel to remote work locations including in marine environments;
· Assist and participate in training and capacity building initiatives for company staff and Gitxaala members; and
· Work collaboratively and constructively with a variety of clients, co-workers, and contractors in a team-oriented setting.
Requirements, Interests, and Other Experience:
· BSc in environmental, biological, or related science OR a BASc in environmental engineering;
· Approximately 2 to 5 years relevant work experience;
· Eligibility for registration with a professional association (in-training or fully accredited);
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
· Experienced in sampling of various environmental media;
· Strong organizational and analytical skills, effective problem-solving, and ability to maintain confidentiality;
· Positive attitude towards implementing health and safety systems. Level 1 First Aid, H2S Alive, etc. considered an asset;
· Willingness to travel for work and a valid BC class 5 driver’s license;
· Experience working with and/or interest in drones, ROVs, etc. considered an asset; and
· Diving experience/SCUBA certification considered and/or small vessel operator proficiency a strong asset.
