Provincial Oncology Treatment - Clinical Lead
Location: Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Prince County Hospital
Role Summary:
The purpose of this position is to provide leadership within a team-based framework to front-line oncology nursing across sites offering ambulatory cancer treatment services. This position will provide on-going assessment of oncology treatment services, monitor performance and productivity, and will promote clinical competency of all staff by working in close partnership with the Oncology Professional Practice Lead. This position will be the main contact for the nursing team in clinical matters and ensure service continuity through the appropriate scheduling and planning as related to nursing resources. This position also serves as the direct supervisor to ensure high quality of service through provision of regular employee coaching and feedback, completion of performance reviews, approval of leave and education requests, and assignment of work duties to ensure employees are fulfilled by work to full scope of practice.
The full scope of the role extends to providing an expert clinical resource in developing and strengthening operational guidelines to ensure consistent standards of practice, leading the development, implementation, evaluation of new and/or planned initiatives within the oncology treatment services to support the efficient and effective delivery of all programs and clinical services. This role requires equitable onsite presence and support wherever ambulatory oncology treatment service is provided in the province of PEI.
Clinical Practice:
- Provide leadership, quality advice, planning, implementation, evaluation and support for consistent application of services within the scope of nursing according to relevant standards of practice and core competencies
- Act as an expert resource, developing and strengthening operational guidelines to ensure consistent and up to date standards of practice
- Providing leadership on the implementation of programs and projects related to cancer treatment, patient flow in an ambulatory cancer setting, patient, patient engagement and satisfaction, and developing a clear model of care for cancer patients that promotes equitable access to care across sites.
- Providing leadership to ensure a reduction in duplication of resources when appropriate with emphasis on promoting the most appropriate service, by the most appropriate provider at the most appropriate time for clients;
- Ensuring programs contribute to the overall strategic goals of Health PEI and are consistent with strategic planning directions;
- Providing expert resources in areas of clinical expertise and knowledge of relevant professional practices;
- Providing clinical supervision and performance management for nursing team members while working in close partnership with all other leaders with similar roles to ensure there is a collaborative care approach with patients served to optimize professional scope of practice for everyone;
- Provide guidance on provision of direct care and case management to clients and ensure delivery of professional care to a client or group of clients utilizing evidence-based standards of practice; making decisions is consistent within the scope of practice (within own level of competence); and is accountable for competent, ethical and safe practices;
- Facilitating and fostering effective team development and working relationships;
- Optimizing collaborative relationships within the clinic setting and with other key stake holders within HPEI and the community sectors;
- Providing leadership in program discussions, departmental initiatives, and representing a quality care approach within the clinic for Health PEI;
Statement of Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Diploma in Nursing with extensive experience in clinical area may be considered
- Considerable experience (3-5 yrs) directly related to nursing practice area
- Experience in supervisor, planning, educator and education roles
- Must obtain and maintain education credentials and certifications specific to practice area and role
- Active or eligible for registration with the Prince Edward Island College of Nursing & Midwifery
External candidates may be eligible to receive a $8,000 Nursing Incentive, plus a $5,000 Rural or $8,000 Student Loan Incentive depending on location of employment. To be eligible for recruitment incentives candidates must hold a 1.0 FTE, this can be a full-time role or a combination of part-time positions. Relocation Assistance may be available to part or full-time candidates.
