We are seeking a detail-oriented Calibration Technician (or Metrologist) who enjoys precision measurement, problem-solving, and working in a laboratory environment.
Position Summary
The Calibration Technician is responsible for calibrating, testing, adjusting, and documenting a wide variety of measurement instruments while following ISO/IEC 17025:2017 quality requirements. The successful candidate will perform calibrations using traceable reference standards, prepare calibration certificates, maintain laboratory records, and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes.
Responsibilities
- Perform calibration of measurement instruments, including but not limited to:
- Electrical test equipment (multimeters, power supplies, process calibrators)
- Pressure gauges and transmitters
- Temperature instruments (RTDs, thermocouples, digital thermometers)
- Dimensional equipment (calipers, micrometres, indicators)
- Torque tools and measuring devices (torque wrenches, torque screwdrivers, torque transducers, and torque analyzers)
- Interpret manufacturer specifications and calibration procedures.
- Perform measurement uncertainty calculations when required.
- Prepare accurate calibration certificates and technical documentation.
- Verify calibration data and ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements.
- Maintain calibration records and laboratory documentation.
- Assist in troubleshooting and adjusting equipment that fails calibration.
- Maintain laboratory reference standards and equipment.
- Participate in internal quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Follow laboratory safety procedures and quality management requirements.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding calibration results and technical questions.
Qualifications
Required
- Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Electronics, Instrumentation, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
- Comfortable working with computers and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to read technical manuals and specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
- Previous experience in calibration, metrology, instrumentation, quality assurance, or laboratory testing.
- Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
- Experience with uncertainty calculations.
- Familiarity with measurement traceability and SI units.
- Experience using calibration software.
- Experience with Fluke, Keysight, Vaisala, Mitutoyo, Starrett, or similar equipment.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and measurement system evaluation.
