Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Therapy Services, the Physiotherapist Assistant is responsible for the treatment, implementation and evaluation of resident-focused therapy services based on the physical, cognitive, emotional, spiritual and social needs of residents in the Hoivakoti Nursing Home and/or Seniors Fitness Centre.

Some Key Responsibilities

  • Implement therapy programs and/or services ensuring optimal resident outcomes are achieved within the available resources while complying with all regulatory requirements
  • Provide clinical and professional services to the physiotherapy department
  • Act as a resource of clinical knowledge and information for residents, families and multidisciplinary team members
  • Assist and work alongside the Director of Therapy Services when carrying out the assessment and treatment of residents
  • Provide resident/family education and support to address physical, emotional and self-care needs as required
  • Provide time and accurate information to relevant team members regarding the resident’s performance also take an active part in resident care conferences
  • Assist resident with activities such as walking, transfers and safe mobility
  • Maintain the comfort, privacy, and dignity of each resident in the delivery of services to them
  • Responsible for administrative duties such as; documentation, follow up family/resident phone calls, filing, photocopying, etc...
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Long Term Care Homes Act, and other relevant legislation; as well as Ministry of Health and Long Term Care Guidelines and best practices in the industry
  • Participate in designated meetings and committees and provide feedback as needed
  • Actively participate in the implementation of Finlandia Village Quality Program
  • Maintain all departmental records; reports statistics, etc. in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Finlandia Village
  • Perform other duties as required


  • Completion of a Physiotherapist Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of one (1) year of appropriate professional experience in a health care field
  • Valid CPR Certificate
  • Knowledge of current trends and information related to resident-focused programming
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing and data base management
  • Able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic and work as a part of a team
  • Able to speak, listen and write in a clear, thorough and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques
  • Able to work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness
  • Good time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
  • Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) is considered an asset
  • Finnish language skills is considered an asset

Physical Demands

  • Intermittent physical activity including: walking standing, sitting, lifting and supporting residents
