Urban Mechanical Ltd. is a growing HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and controls company serving Calgary and the surrounding area. We are looking for a motivated 2nd or 3rd Year Apprentice Plumber to join our commercial service team.
This position is a great opportunity for an apprentice who wants to develop strong plumbing service and troubleshooting skills while also gaining exposure to other areas of the mechanical trade.
At Urban Mechanical, you will not be limited to basic plumbing installations. Our plumbing apprentices work alongside experienced journeymen and technicians and may be exposed to hydronic heating systems, boilers, pumps, motors, gas-fired appliances, hot water equipment, HVAC equipment, and mechanical controls. This provides an opportunity to build a broader understanding of commercial mechanical systems and gain valuable experience working around gas-fired equipment under the supervision of qualified journeymen.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will assist with and perform plumbing service, repairs, maintenance, installations, and troubleshooting at commercial and multi-residential properties throughout Calgary and the surrounding area.
We are looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, professional, and interested in developing into a strong service plumber.
Responsibilities
- Assist with and perform commercial plumbing service and repairs
- Troubleshoot leaks, drainage issues, water supply problems, and plumbing equipment
- Install and repair plumbing fixtures, piping, valves, pumps, and related components
- Work on domestic water, drainage, heating water, and hydronic piping systems
- Assist with servicing and replacing hot water tanks and other domestic hot water equipment
- Assist experienced journeymen with boilers, pumps, gas-fired appliances, and related mechanical equipment
- Gain exposure to HVAC equipment, motors, controls, fan coils, and other mechanical systems where applicable
- Perform preventative maintenance inspections
- Read and interpret basic mechanical drawings, schematics, and equipment information
- Complete accurate service reports and document work performed
- Identify deficiencies and communicate recommended repairs to the service team
- Communicate professionally with customers, building operators, and site staff
- Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle and work area
- Follow company safety procedures and industry best practices
- Participate in the on-call rotation when required
Qualifications
- Registered 2nd or 3rd Year Plumbing Apprentice
- Commercial service experience is preferred but not required
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to troubleshoot
- Comfortable using hand tools and power tools
- Ability to work independently when appropriate and as part of a team
- Strong willingness to learn and develop additional mechanical skills
- Professional attitude when dealing with customers and site personnel
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record
- Basic hand tools required
- Experience with boilers, hydronics, pumps, HVAC, or controls is an asset
- Gasfitting experience or exposure is an asset but not required
