Enjoy working at a fun dance studio in the heart of Old Strathcona! Our place is full of friendly people, is easy to access from all parts of the city, and centrally located within the bustle of Old Strathcona. We offer dance classes, social events, entertainment/performing services, and facility bookings.
We are looking for part-time workers to join our front-of-house and office reception team.
Shifts are primarily on Sunday afternoons; Tuesday evenings; Wednesday evenings; Friday and Saturday nights.
This is a part-time position of approx 2 shifts per week, 3-5 hours a shift, and we are seeking 2-3 individuals. This will vary between 1-3 shifts a week, depending on need.
Our Operations:
- On Fridays and Saturdays, we run weekly evening social events where Event staff / Front of House staff are needed. Duties include setup, admissions, ticketing, decorating, and some event oversight.
- From Sunday to Thursday, we operate primarily as a dance studio, with office hours on Sunday afternoons and Monday to Thursday evenings 5pm-9pm. Office work includes answering emails/inquiries, processing payments, enrolling students, and admin support for teachers and staff.
- Finally, on occasion, we may ask for additional shifts to help service our venue bookings, especially in summer
Job Description and Duties:
Excellent customer service and computer skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate well (verbal and written). Having familiarity with the social dance culture is preferred. Efficient and excellent organizational skills and tidiness are important. Flexibility in the job duties is to be expected in order to help keep business operations running smoothly.
Front of House (FOH) Duties
- Dance event setup (tables, chairs, basic decorating)
- Admission sales, ticketing, purchases
- Event management and oversight
- Teardown, tidying, cleaning
- Sweeping, shoveling walks as needed
- Occasional maintenance and decorating
Office Reception Duties:
- Answering phones, emails, and walk-in customers
- Enrolling students for classes
- Handling orders, purchases, sales
- Various office administrative duties
- Venue prep & tidying
- Cleaning
Scheduling:
The employee may expect to work 1-3 shifts a week, as scheduled by their supervisor, whenever we are open for events and classes. We are open year-round for dance classes, events, and rentals. We take 2-4 week breaks from classes in December, April, and August. Our dance social events happen every Friday and Saturday night except major holidays. Event rentals are busiest in summer, but also happen year-round. Please see our website for our opening hours for an idea of scheduling hours.
Experience:
- customer service/retail: 1 year (Preferred)
- dance classes, adult oriented: 1 year (Preferred)

Proficiency:
- Google Docs; Sheets/Excel, Word/OpenOffice
- Book-keeping software (Preferred)
- Email, Texting, Messenger
Requirements:
- Class 5 Driver's License (Strongly Preferred)
- ProServe (Required within 30 days)
- Must be able to work independently and with minimal supervision
Physical Requirements
- The ability to lift 15kg/35lbs periodically
- Respond quickly to sounds
- Climb stairs and ladders while carrying 15kg
- Wear personal protective gear correctly (masks against Covid-19, etc)
Education:
- Secondary School (Required)
- Post Secondary (Recommended)
Salary: Negotiable, starting at $17.50 /hour
Probationary Period: One (1) month
