Under the leadership, direction and supervision of the Manager Health Services, the incumbent is responsible for providing dental assisting services, as well as oral health education and screening. The incumbent will work within a team in both a specialty clinic and in various community settings. The attending dentist will provide the clinical supervision. The incumbent will be responsible for Clinical duties, community education, screening and relations as main functions and administrative duties as an auxiliary function of the position.
- Two years related experience preferably in a pediatric specialty office.
- Experience working with children is considered an asset.
- Experience presenting oral health education to groups.
- Experience in working with the public in a professional manner.
- Computer knowledge and experience essential (e.g. Cleardent, Microsoft Office, Outlook).
- Experience working with medically, physically and/or economically compromised patients is an asset.
- Experience working with the public in a very busy environment is preferred.
- Graduate of a recognized Dental Assistant Program.
- Must be a registered Dental Assistant Phase 2.
- Annual registration and certification by the Manitoba Dental Association.
- Must possess a valid class 5 driver’s license and have access to a reliable vehicle.
- CPR certification required.
- Maintain annual CPR certification.
- Knowledgeable and skilled in the techniques of prophylactic procedures, disease transmission, sterilization procedures and assistant duties.
- Ability to maintain concise records and perform statistical calculations.
- Must be able to perform all duties as assigned with minimal supervision.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and cope with competing demands.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a high functioning team in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to adjust priorities as situations evolves.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Compliance with PHIA, FIPPA and WRHA policies.
- Ability to travel within the city limits, evening work may be required.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
