As the Analyst I Payroll you will be responsible for achieving a high standard of accuracy, efficiency and compliance in the full aggregated production of the organization’s Canadian and US payrolls in accordance with all collective agreement and legislative requirements.
What you will do:
Overall participates with the payroll production function, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of all Canadian and US payrolls and ensuring appropriate checks / balances and reporting are completed in accordance with prescribed timelines and procedures (GAAP, SOX, etc.).
Maintain and review regularly the integrity, reliability, and timeliness of payroll and related information that has been input by the front-office representatives and specialists, ensuring strict adherence to statutory and other company reporting requirements.
Support the execution of the payroll run files; validate all aggregation aspects of the inputs from the various sources; exercise control to ensure all inputs are accounted for; run payroll staging including but not limited to payroll calculation, retro calculation review, time validations.
Support the completion of the “Payroll Settlement ” process and perform the reconciliation of final payroll results (including gross to net payroll balancing).
Initiate the bank transfer process containing all employee direct deposits.
Participates and supports all year-end validation and production, including developing the predictive actions pertaining to accuracy with PIER reporting.
Supports the payroll team with, the processing of all bulk updates and off-cycle runs (retro, bonuses, relocation payments, etc.).
As a key stakeholder, assisting in the payroll production and year-end systems enhancement requests, upgrades, tax releases, compliance, changes to CBA, as required.
Regularly participate in business continuity and operational planning activities as required.
Participates in payroll team projects and testing as required.
Who you are:
You have the following qualifications and experience:
University Degree or College Business Graduate (Business, HR or Finance).
1-3 years working knowledge of Canadian and US Payroll.
Prior payroll experience in a fast-paced and ever-shifting “service environment” involving a complex union / non-union working environment, covering multi-provincial, multi-state organizational entities.
Expertise and knowledge of complex payroll compliance and HR requirements, including international assignments (ex-patriates and in-patriates), tax equalization, relocation, stock options, taxable benefits, etc.
Proven ability to apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an inquiring mindset.
Ability to identify and assist with operational implementation of industry and payroll-related best practices.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Knowledge of effective system controls, audit and reporting routines.
Knowledge of interdependent HR administrative requirements (legislation), human resources concepts, practices, systems, and procedures.
CPM designation is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with Workday is preferred.
Knowledge and experience with 3rd party interfacing requirements (, CRA, MRQ, SSA, IRS, US DOL etc.) is preferred.
