POSITION TITLE: Registered Nurse - Nights
REPORTS TO: Director of Care & Manager of Personal Care Nursing
DEPARTMENT: NURSING - LONG TERM CARE
PERMANENT: FULL-TIME– NIGHTS - Minimum 2 years' experience

POSITION PURPOSE:
Reporting to the Director of care (DOC), the Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable to provide professional nursing care and leads a team by employing clinical knowledge and skills and process’ to promote and support the residents’ health and well-being. The RN’s manage operations of The Glebe Centre by collaborating, directing, and evaluating processes according to the College of nurses of Ontario Standards of Practice.
· Take direction from the Director of Care/Manager of Nursing Care Operations
· Enhance the dignity and autonomy of the residents.
· Help create and maintain a peaceful, home‑like environment for residents.
· Ensure that the verbal and non‑verbal communication utilized is appropriate for the resident.
· Keep families informed and offer support when required.
· Include residents, family members, students, and volunteers as members of the care team.
· Be always professional in appearance and manner.
· Maintain documentation and gather data as required.
· Take primary responsibility for an assigned number of residents and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma or Baccalaureate in nursing (RN)
· Current certificate of competence in the province of Ontario
· Minimum 2 years' experience working with individuals in a Long‑Term Care setting an asset. Applicants must have a minimum of two years of experience.
· Ability to understand, speak, read, and write English fluently.
· Ability to use the computer for documentation and unit operations.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
· Current knowledge of medications and care planning process.
· Leadership, coaching and counselling skills.
· Ability to meet standards of care as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
· Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
· Self‑motivation and ability to work well in an unstructured environment.
· A strong commitment to use therapeutic as opposed to custodial care.
· Adheres to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against resident care goals and standards, making, or recommending necessary adjustments, following standards of care set by The College of Nurses of Ontario, Regulations of the Ministry of Health, and Long-Term Care, and adhering to policies and procedures of The Glebe Centre Inc.

FUNCTIONS:
Occupational Health & Safety
· Advises supervisor or designate immediately of all staff incidents that may result in an Occupational Accident claim, or any concerns with the physical incidents or injuries and complete required reports.
· Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calling for assistance from health care support personnel when needed. Promote resident’s independence by supporting restorative care, establishing resident care goals, teaching residents, friends, and family on conditions and medications.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT:
· Ensure operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
· Maintain nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting order for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; and using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
· Maintain positive clinical and operational outcomes by leading, coaching; counselling; and directing employees as well as planning; monitoring; and appraising team members performance.
· Ensure the supply, control, and safekeeping of drugs and narcotics, and ensures protocols are followed on all assigned shifts.
OPERATIONS:
· Maintain continuity between nursing teams by precise documentation and communication of actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
· Maintain a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, respond to requests, building rapport and participating in team problem-solving methods.
· Ensure that staffing is replaced according to current schedule practice and notify Director of Care (DOC) for overtime approval prior to initiating.
EDUACATION
· Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional and in-house in-services.
GENERAL:

It is the right of staff to refuse unsafe work. It is the responsibility of staff to immediately report to a supervisor any injury or situation that endangers their health and safety or the health and safety of others.
All employees of The Glebe Centre are required to follow the policies and procedures of the organization. Some key policies are documented below:
1. Infection control practices must at all times be taken seriously and performed as defined in the Infection Control Manual.
2. Confidentiality and Privacy of Residents is of utmost importance. All employees are expected to hold confidential information about residents, clients, and members. There is also an expectation that information shared between team members or other staff is confidential unless otherwise specified. Client privacy ensures the dignity of all our residents- Resident Care Manual, and Department Manuals.
3. Prevention of Resident Abuse is primary and there exists an obligation to report abuse or potential abuse – Resident Care Manual. Resident comfort and safety are the primary focus of the Glebe Centre.
4. Team members are expected to meet their obligations as far as scheduled hours and shifts are concerned. Regular attendance and being on time ensure resident safety and team functioning.
5. Showing respect is an essential requirement of all Glebe Centre employees. There is a policy in the Occupational and Safety Manual which defines and elaborates harassment and violence in the workplace. Commitment to this policy ensures smooth team functioning and professionalism. Any violation will be taken seriously.
JOB TYPE: Full- Time - Nights
HOURS OF WORK: Eight-hour shifts

SALARY LEVEL: as per the ONA Collective Agreement
