Job Overview
The Youth Centre Assistant Youth Worker will provide support for the Youth Centre Drop-In Program. The Youth Centre is a Friday evening drop-in offering support and a variety of recreational, educational, community safety, and social programming to youth ages 10 to 18. The Youth Centre Assistant will work alongside other Youth Centre team members to assist in the development, delivery and supervision of services while maintaining rapport and creating a safe and inclusive environment. Youth Centre activities and services include open and structured recreational sports, cooking, academic support, board games, art, dance and social justice programming, 1-1, and group support. Duties may also include administrative support and volunteer management.
Job Responsibilities
- Support with the supervision and stewardship of Youth Centre program activities
- Support other team members with planning and organizing activities for the Youth Centre
- Engage and connect with participants in a respectful, supportive and positive manner
- Support with program and equipment set-up and clean-up
- Support with recording statistics, record keeping, and taking part in program debrief sessions
- Support with the supervision and support of program volunteers
- Maintain and support a safe and inclusive environment for participants, volunteers and team
- If needed, create promotional material and collaborate with YS team to promote program activities
- Attend team meetings and take part in professional development opportunities as required
Skills & Qualifications
- 2 or more years of experience in direct service work with youth ages 10 to 18
- Availability to work Friday evenings
- Experience in the planning, development and implementation of youth programs
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, leadership and communication skills
- Experience in supervising and managing volunteers
- Experience in youth advocacy and support
- Strong understanding and awareness of youth issues and needs within the community
- Adaptability to work in a variety of environments
- Standard First Aid Certification (or willingness to get one)
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the job start date
Assets
- Positive and engaging attitude
- Training in High Five or other children and youth program delivery models

This position is covered by a Collective Agreement with CUPE Local 1936
