About the Role
This Property Accountant position reports to the Accounting Manager and supports the full-cycle accounting function for a portfolio of commercial properties. The role is suited to someone detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple accounting tasks related to lease administration, receivables, payables, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the complete accounting cycle for an assigned portfolio of income-producing properties.
- Prepare and review month-end working papers, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Analyze monthly financial results and investigate variances against budgets and forecasts.
- Evaluate cash flow requirements and assist with forecasting and liquidity planning.
- Review commercial lease agreements and approve lease setups to ensure accurate accounting treatment.
- Maintain and monitor co-tenancy and lease-related schedules.
- Prepare year-end financial statements in accordance with IFRS or ASPE standards.
- Complete annual Common Area Maintenance (CAM) reconciliations and oversee related tenant billings.
- Partner with property management, leasing, legal, corporate accounting, and property administration teams to ensure financial matters are accurately reflected and communicated.
- Perform special projects, financial analyses, and account reconciliations as required.
- Prepare quarterly financial reporting packages, including variance analyses and property performance reports.
Requirement
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage deadlines
- 4+ years of experience in commercial property management setting is preferred
- Positive, proactive, team-oriented attitude with eagerness to learn
- Experience in property accounting, real estate, or property management is an asset
- Experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Compensation
- Salary range: $85,000–$95,000, depending on experience.
