Reporting to the Coordinator, Food Services, the Infant Feeding Assistant is responsible for the handling, storage, preparation and delivery of all oral feeds, including human breast milk and infant formula, utilizing the principles of sterile technique, body substance precautions, infection prevention and quality assurance. The Infant Feeding Assistant calculates the daily oral feeding requirements for all infants receiving breast milk through a review of the feed orders. The Infant Feeding Assistant is responsible for all EPR orders that interface to the Women & Infants System.
Rate of Pay: $21.580 per hour - $26.973 per hour
Hours of Work: Up to 22.5 hours per week; weekend and evening work required
Successful completion of a 2 year Community College Diploma in Food and Nutrition
Member of Canadian Society of Nutrition Management preferred
Recent experience in infant formulary/expressed breast milk preparation preferred
Demonstrated proficient knowledge of sterile technique, body substance precautions, infection prevention and quality assurance
Demonstrated ability to prioritize work
Proficient knowledge in safe food handling guidelines, inventory management and control
Demonstrated proficient knowledge of specific guidelines for preparation, handling and storage of breast milk
Proficient computer knowledge (Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel)
Proficient knowledge of the Women & Infants system and associated printers
Demonstrated proficient math skills to convert EPR infant formula order to preparation recipe
Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, highly organized, flexible and balance competing priorities
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a work team
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written)
Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Mission, Vision and Values
Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step)
