R.W. Tomlinson is currently seeking an Estimator with shoring, piling and deep excavation experience. This will be a permanent, full-time position reporting to a Senior Estimator.
The estimator prepares cost estimates for tender opportunities. The estimator liaises with customers, clients, sub-contractors, and consulting engineers to build personal relationships and to promote the positive qualities and benefits of RWT. The estimator provides project management support for contracts. They review job costs from previous and on-going jobs to provide production rate analysis for construction and future bids. The estimator works towards achieving more advanced training to develop personally and to enhance the productivity of the estimation team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares Cost Estimates for Tenders:
- Obtains tender documents.
- Attends job showings.
- Reviews site conditions.
- Performs pre-qualification tasks as required.
- Obtains bonding, insurance etc. for tender submissions.
- Work with our inhouse engineering team to design shoring systems for tenders.
- Reviews and comprehends tender specifications and communicates with the tender consultant any questions or concerns.
- Communicates with sub-contractors to obtain pricing.
- Performs quantity calculations for all tender items.
- Pricing of items and jobs to be performed in a computerized estimation program.
- Fills out pre-tender forms for tender tracking, fill out tender documents, delivery of tender documents, follow-up and provide tender results.
- Reviews tender submissions with the appropriate manager.
Liaises with Customers, Sub-contractors, and Consulting Engineers to Build Personal Relationships and Promotes the Positive Qualities and Benefits of RWT:
- Attends industry related functions to build relationships and networks.
- Communicates with engineers through budget pricing etc. to build a relationship and to establish a positive, inviting culture.
- Monitors job posting sites, newspapers, engineering firms etc. for tendering opportunities.
Internally Communicates to Construction, Project Administration and Accounting Contract Specification and Costing Details:
- Issues job transmittals to construction, contract administration and accounting.
- Help set up sub-contracts.
- Assist with initial scheduling using P6 Primavera for bidding purposes.
- Meets with job superintendent to provide and communicate relevant job information.
Provides Project Management Support for Contracts:
- Negotiates additional work prices for on-going contracts.
- Reach out to subcontractors for change order pricing as required.
- Provides scope of work clarification to construction.
- Attends job meetings as required.
- Issues and circulates job change orders.
Reviews Job Costs from Previous and On-going Jobs to Provide Production Rate Analysis for Construction and Future Bids:
- Reviews actual production rates to establish a data base.
- Reviews actual job costs and production rates to estimate future bids more accurately.
- Monitors and updates computerized estimation database to reflect current costs and contract information.
Work Towards Achieving More Advanced Training:
- Attends training sessions to continue personal development.
- Identifies training opportunities and communicate to your manager.
- Works with senior staff to develop skills.
- Works with estimation to share and enhance individual knowledge and skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Certified Engineering Technologist / PEng designation or equivalent experience is required.
- Minimum of 5 years combined field and estimation experience, specifically in the shoring & piling, and deep excavation disciplines.
- A high proficiency in:
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- Outlook
- Estimation Software (InEight Estimate) will be considered an asset.
- Take off software and advantage (PlanSwift, InSite, Trimble Business Center).
- Working knowledge of SAP will be considered an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Standard office environment.
- May be required to work occasional weekend or evening.
- Required to attend job site showing meetings.
