The Medical Care Analytics department performs acquisition, abstraction, and capture of clinically oriented medical legal data. The department analyses and interprets the data to generate knowledge that supports the activities of Safe Medical Care. The department also responds to internal and external requests for data analysis. The department studies historical data to identify individual provider, team and system factors associated with medical-legal risk, researches trends, and evaluates the performance and impact of education programs. The department synthesizes evidence and disseminates its research findings by authoring reports, risk management and educational materials in collaboration with CMPA’s physician advisors, general counsel, and the Communications department.


The Data Analyst provides technical and analytical support using the CMPA medical-legal data and other data sources to identify areas of medical-legal risks. These analyses support education and knowledge translation activities of Safe Medical Care.

As an integral member of the Medical Care Analytics team, the Data Analyst reports to the Clinical Analysis Supervisor and works collaboratively with the Senior Statistical Specialist, Medical Analyst Researchers, Qualitative Researcher, Physician Advisors and others. The Data Analyst participates in departmental quality assurance and knowledge sharing activities to improve the overall quality of research data and products.


Works with Medical Analyst Researchers and other members of the Data Insight team to perform analytical studies in response to internal and external information requests. Gathers requirements, develops content and produces reports for a wide range of audiences.
Writes SAS programs to extracts data, and analyse data following established methodology. Assists in data interpretation and report writing.
Interacts with Safe Medical Care members to develop common understanding of the teams information needs and promotes understanding of MCA data and research methods.
Contributes to ongoing quality assurance of medical-legal data and knowledge products of Medical Care Analytics
Performs other analytical duties as required.


Bachelors Degree (4 years) in statistics, economics, epidemiology, or other related field. Master’s degree a strong asset.
Four-years of relevant work experience in conducting research projects including the design, execution, analysis, interpretation and reporting of findings.
Proficiency in computer programming and software, particularly SAS, as well as familiarity with data visualization and graphic software.
Knowledge of administrative health care data an asset.
