About Ron Anderson and Sons Ltd.
Ron Anderson and Sons Ltd. (RAS) is a growing Vancouver Island framing and formwork contractor specializing in commercial, multi-family wood-frame, and concrete construction, supported by our pre-fabrication facility in Chemainus. Our projects span Vancouver Island, and we are proud of the strong team and culture we've built.
We're looking for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead our safety program and help drive continuous improvement across our operations.
Why This Role Is Different
This is not a Safety Coordinator position.
We're looking for a leader who can take ownership of our health and safety program, identify priorities, build plans, coach operational leaders, and help shape the future of safety at RAS. You'll work closely with management and site leadership to ensure safety remains integrated into everyday operations rather than residing solely within the safety department.
This position is primarily based from our Langford office, with the ability to work from our Chemainus office as required, and includes regular travel to projects throughout Vancouver Island.
What You'll Be Responsible For
-
Leading and continuously improving the company's health and safety program.
-
Maintaining and enhancing our safety management system, policies, procedures, and standards.
-
Providing practical safety leadership and regulatory guidance to managers, supervisors, and project teams.
-
Supporting audits, inspections, and compliance initiatives.
-
Analyzing safety trends, incidents, inspections, and observations to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
-
Leading significant incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
-
Working with operational leadership to ensure safety expectations are integrated into project execution.
-
Identifying training and competency requirements across the organization.
-
Coaching supervisors and managers on hazard management, accountability, investigations, and regulatory responsibilities.
-
Leading interactions with WorkSafeBC and other regulatory authorities.
-
Helping foster a strong culture of safety ownership and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
What We're Looking For
-
5+ years of progressive health and safety experience, preferably within construction.
-
Experience developing, implementing, and improving health and safety programs.
-
Strong knowledge of the BC Workers Compensation Act, Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and requirements.
-
Experience leading incident investigations and managing corrective actions.
-
Ability to influence managers, supervisors, and workers while balancing operational and safety priorities.
-
Strong communication, leadership, coaching, and organizational skills.
-
Experience with safety management software; SiteDocs experience is considered an asset.
-
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Construction Safety, or a related discipline is preferred.
Preferred Certifications
-
NCSO or equivalent construction safety designation.
-
CRSP designation or actively working toward designation.
-
Occupational First Aid certification.
What We Offer
-
Full-time, permanent position.
-
Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
-
Extended health and dental benefits.
-
Paid time off.
-
Professional development opportunities.
-
Company events.
-
The opportunity to lead and strengthen the safety culture of a growing Vancouver Island contractor.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
