Position Description:

This position supports, coordinates and manages the planning, organization, control, integration and completion of project, while operating within the guidelines established by the Managing Principal – Projects and within the policies and procedures established for Project Management. Other employees do not directly report to this position.

Responsibilities include:

General Administration

  • The Project Manager is directly responsible for the profitability of projects, closely monitor projects by the use of financial tools such as: expected revenue backlog report, staffing model, labour detail report, cost to complete report and project progress report
  • Submit organization plan for the project and a task plan for approval to the Managing Principal – Projects or Senior Project Manager prior to assigning tasks
  • Responsible for the scheduling of work to members in the AGP for each project according to the task and sub task schedule and careful review to ensure understanding of responsibilities
  • Responsible for keeping the Managing Principal – Projects or Senior Project Manager informed on the progress and problems for each project.
  • Work with various stake holders determine resources, timelines and budget projections
  • Understand client needs, possess strong communication skills and work effectively within a cross functional team of architects, designers project managers and drafters
  • Working with the senior management team to meet client goals and ensure client satisfaction


  • Implement the project management plan of the company and monitor the implementation of the office financial controls. All projects have a budget of dollars and hours, the Project Manager must meet those budgets.
  • Monitoring engineering contracts, subcontracts, change orders and other agreements to ensure that established internal procedures are being followed
  • Makes themselves available to provide necessary support to administration staff

Human Resources

  • Develop and maintain dependable, motivated staff and high morale
  • Mentor junior Project Managers on project management issues
  • Assist the Managing Principal – Projects in conducting professional development and performance reviews


  • Keep abreast of technological changes that affect the building industry that could effect building designs or interior designs
  • Take appropriate technical training to ensure we are providing our clients with the most up to date technical information


  • Strong drafting and project management experience with the ability to maintain good quality control while working on a variety of projects
  • Review of contracts in regards to scope, deliverables, schedule and compliance with practice documents
  • Competency with Alberta Building Code is essential
  • Competency of the Local Approving Authorities who have jurisdiction in the requirements for DP and BP submissions
  • Co-ordinates with Authorities having jurisdiction
  • Ascertain that code checks, zoning requirements, and necessary coordination has occurred
  • Arranges for timely submission of documents for quality control reviews, milestone progress reviews etc.
  • Ensure that documents are dated, have accurate revision numbers and are coordinated with all disciplines
  • Delegates work plan, schedule, and PIF for project completion
  • Reviews and co-ordinates engineers (chairs meetings)
  • Primary contact for client and general contractor
  • Attends job site meetings and provides site inspections
  • Delegates contract administration documentation
  • Co-ordinates and reviews work of all design professionals
  • Prepares documentation and coordinates specification writers

Client Contact

  • Frequent client and sub-consultant contact

Business Development

  • Assist Managing Principal – Projects in responding to new business opportunities
  • Seek and identify new work associated with existing projects and clients

Education and Experience Required

  • Diploma or Degree from a 2+ year technology program or 3+ year design program
  • 4+ years experience in Manager role, 8+ years experience as Technologist or Architect on commercial projects
  • On going upgrading of skills over course of career
  • Project Management certificate an asset
  • LEED accreditation an asset

  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of project management
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial, client-savvy, persuasive and a team player
  • Experience leading a project team and providing clear direction on responsibilities of the team members
