About Us

The Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) prepares students to become clinically skilled, competent and compassionate Physician Assistants, ready to practice in different health care settings. Students graduate ready to work in physician-led teams, providing patient-centred medical care across hospitals, primary care, emergency medicine, and specialty services.

Learning in this is two-year, full-time professional master’s targets PA-specific competencies and graduate-level training, and is aligned with the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry program in Undergraduate Medical Education. Students train within a physician-led model of care, build competency through Entrustable Professional Activities (EPAs), and complete a graduate research project - ensuring practice-readiness and preparation for national certification.

Course Information

This course introduces physician assistant students to the principles of medical research, including experimental and observational study designs, research ethics, and literature review methods. Students develop skills in critical appraisal, evidence synthesis, and scholarly communication while learning to create patient education materials that support research-informed clinical practice.

This course uses a blended learning approach that may include in-person and virtual live (synchronous) sessions, asynchronous online learning activities, class discussions designed to support active engagement and application of course concepts.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or be close to completion) and a demonstrated record of high performance and expertise teaching at the upper year university level in the area of fundamentals of medical research. Preference will be given to candidates with experience relevant to teaching in the specific subject area of this course (see Course Information), as well as experience in teaching online courses.
