Under the direction of the Accounting Manager, the Intermediate Accountant position is ideal for a CPA student to continue their development in their career as an accountant. The Accountant will play a crucial role in supporting the financial operations of the company, including maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The ideal candidate should have a solid understanding of accounting principles, experience with general ledger activities, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting.
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, investment portfolios, and other ad hoc reports.
- Ensure that all financial reports are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- General Ledger Management.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, including bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, and accounts payable.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Perform daily accounting tasks, including preparing and reviewing journal entries.
- Internal Controls.
- Help maintain and improve internal controls to ensure the accuracy and reliability of financial information.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and explanations.
- Tax Compliance.
- Assist in preparing tax filings and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Support the preparation of tax returns and coordinate with external tax advisors as needed.
- Team Collaboration.
- Assist with mentoring junior staff, providing review, guidance and support.
- Participate in special projects and process improvements.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is required.
- Enrolled as a CPA student with minimum three-year general accounting work experience is required.
- Proficiency in financial software and intermediate Excel skills is required.
- Familiar with Canadian accounting principles with a willingness to learn in depth.
- Knowledge of financial instruments or the insurance industry is an asset.
- Fluent in English with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is required.
- Fluent in French with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is an asset
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting.
