After School Program Staff


The YMCA of Fredericton responds to critical social needs in the community
and works to provide solutions. By nurturing the potential of children, youth
and adults, the YMCA connects people to life-building opportunities, as well as
to each other and enhances their quality of life. The YMCA of Fredericton offers
a diverse set of programs at 6 locations in the city.

Position Overview
After-school Program Staff report to the Manager of Child Care. After-
school Staff are responsible for delivering a quality, safe, and fun
program for all children within our programs from the ages
of 5 to 12 years old.


  • Read and Sign-off on the YMCA Staff/Volunteer Guide and Child Protection
Policy and Procedures document.

  • Read, Sign-off, and follow NB Child Care Licensing requirements.
  • Deliver planned monthly activities, which will include components of
literacy, math, art, and science.

  • Provide a safe and fun environment for children
  • Incorporate Physical Activity on a daily basis.
  • Ensure a constant presence with the children in your program, engaging in
activities with the youth and promoting safety first at all times

  • Practicing YMCA ‘SAM’ standards, develop a healthy rapport with the
Fredericton YMCA After-School children, their families, and the public.
Ensure After School program spaces are kept neat, tidy, and safe at all times

  • Attend mandatory staff meetings and YMCA staff training events.
  • Inform the Manager of Child Care of any program changes, problems, and
concerns immediately

Status: Part-Time

Salary: $11.25 an hour, plus
Quality Improvement Funding

Skills and Qualifications
  • Early Childhood Education Diploma, Teaching Certificate, or equivalent is
an asset
  • Experience and/ or training in child development, children’s programs, and
youth recreation is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in early learning and/ or school-age environments
  • Age specific certificates considered an asset (i.e. Children with
Disabilities, infant/ toddler, school age)
  • Knowledge of Provincial licensing policies and regulations
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Strong customer service experience
  • Staff medical
  • Standard First Aid and Level C CPR
  • SD Check
  • Clear vulnerable sector and Criminal Record Check
Working Conditions
Hours: 1:30-5:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday

12:00-5:30 Wednesday

Additional Hours: on scheduled school closure days and storm days (full
days 7:30-5:30)
