As the Senior Commercial Property Accountant, you will report directly to the Operations Controller. You will be responsible for the timely and accurate financial reporting of assigned properties, training and mentoring junior team members, and managing your own portfolio of projects. We seek a highly professional, organized, and detail-oriented individual with a focus on efficiency and timeliness. Problem-solving skills, data analysis, and clear communication are essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting team members to ensure the completion of the accounting cycle checklist and meet deadlines.
- Train and mentor Commercial Accountants.
- Provide property and tenant-related accounting support to the Commercial Property Management team.
- Provide vacation coverage for Commercial Accountants or the Assistant Controller.
- Review and approve property-related A/P batches and online bill payments.
- Oversee GST returns preparation and approval.
- Manage setup of new buildings, units, and GLA changes in the accounting system.
- Review and approve lease tenancy setups and related packages.
- Oversee training and review accounts receivable statements, aged reporting, and rent pulls.
- Assist with construction accounting, including job setups, WIP, closing/transfer entries, and amortizations.
- Prepare monthly financial and lease-related property portfolio reporting.
- Contribute to the consolidated monthly/quarterly/annual executive portfolio summary.
- Assist in planning and completing annual operating cost reconciliations.
- Help plan and complete annual forecasting and budgets.
- Participate in process improvements and project implementation.
- Handle various ad hoc accounting tasks as requested by senior management.
- Foster strong working relationships with all team members and departments.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Degree or Diploma in accounting or bookkeeping. CA designation not required
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, preferably in a property management or real estate industry
- Proficiency in accounting software, MS Office, particularly Excel, Experience with Yardi Voyager is an asset.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting
- Excellent time management, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Effective interpersonal skills with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Current enrollment in the CPA program is an asset.
- Strong professional work ethic; able to work productively, with minimum supervision and collaboratively in a team.
- Must be currently residing in Canada
