Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician to join our team. In this role, you will learn to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a diverse range of heavy equipment, including Vermeer and other brands. If you are a self-starter with strong hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical aptitude, and you thrive in a customer-focused environment, this role is for you.
What You Will Do
- Troubleshoot equipment failures or malfunctions, initiating parts and field service repairs to reduce or avoid unnecessary customer downtime.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all customer equipment.
- Ensure related documentation, i.e. service reports, timesheets, parts request, etc., are properly completed.
- Review and implement factory service bulletins and other relevant information to keep equipment updated.
- Maintain a professional presence that reflects the high value we place on customer service.
- Clearly explain technical issues to customers in a tactful manner and ensure their satisfaction.
- Prepare accurate job estimates in line with work schedules and promised completion dates.
- Maintain a complete familiarity with the practical operation of all equipment to ensure efficient and effective service.
- Maintain and leave all work areas clean, unobstructed, and in a safe and orderly working condition.
- Adhere to all Company policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on Health and Safety.
- Attend and participate in daily toolbox/safety meetings.
What We Are Looking For
- Highly motivated, self-starter with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills in both technical and nontechnical aspects.
- Detail-oriented, with a proven track record of producing high-quality work.
- Strong hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with Vermeer, Cat, John Deere, Ditch Witch, and other Horizontal Drilling equipment is a plus.
- 421A, 310T, or 425A apprentices - Level 3
- Valid driver’s license is required.
