Senior Financial Accountant

We are seeking a high energy, results oriented individual with strong analytical and technical skills to join our Finance team. We have a permanent Senior Financial Accountant opportunity available in the area of Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation of annual and quarterly external financial statements for a number of Hydro’s subsidiaries reporting under IFRS, some of which require consolidation of multiple legal entities. This individual will prepare reliable and timely reporting to meet stakeholder needs while also assessing the on-going financial reporting process to ensure maximum effectiveness and efficiency and to identify and implement opportunities for improvement in the finance function. The successful candidate is expected to use a high level of initiative, and sound professional judgment to develop, analyze, interpret, and report financial information for the provision of key information to management, executive and the boards of directors.
The successful candidate will also be a member of our centralized technical accounting group within the Hydro finance team. This group is responsible for the research, investigation, recommendation and documentation of technical accounting issues under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) across all of our operating segments. This includes analyzing the accounting and financial reporting implications associated with new commercial agreements, potential future transactions and agreements, and any changes to IFRS or new accounting standards that are issued. This individual will consult and liaise with employees across the company including commercial, legal, operations and other members of our finance team to gain the understanding and knowledge necessary to form supportable accounting conclusions.
Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of IFRS and a minimum of five to seven years of practical and progressively responsible experience in financial reporting including experience with preparation of IFRS compliant financial statements;
A University Degree in business supplemented with a professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent experience;
Highly organized and deadline driven, committed to delivering results;
Ability to view the “big picture” and seek to understand;
Excellent analytical skills, problem solving ability and a strong attention to detail;
Excellent written and oral communications skills;
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment;
Experience with researching and documenting technical accounting positions would be considered an asset; and
General knowledge of regulated utility, oil and gas, energy markets, or other capital intensive industry would be considered an asset.
