Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant I will provide Laboratory support to the community of St. Albert. The primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children and infants using both macro and micro techniques, accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, and reception duties.
As a Laboratory Assistant I, you will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including receiving and sorting specimens, cleaning and sanitizing lab equipment and performing basic lab tests. In addition, you will carry out essential clerical duties along with patient queries.

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant Program.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant program which includes specimen handling and phlebotomy. Successful demonstration of laboratory skills and data entry. Working within a team environment, good interpersonal skills, effective time management and the ability to set priorities. Adaptable and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Ability to listen, comprehend and orally respond to or relay information, directions or questions in person, over the telephone or in writing in an accurate and clear concise manner. Must represent Laboratory Services in a respectful, professional and courteous manner.
Competency with the Sunquest Laboratory Information System. Recent experience with Phlebotomy and Data Entry. Familiarity with Patient and Family Centred Care and NOD. Familiarity with EPIC is an asset.
