We are seeking a Mechanical Drafter / CAD Technologist to support its growing fabrication operations by producing accurate fabrication and shop drawings for a variety of custom steel projects. Working closely with project managers, estimators, production personnel and clients, this role will transform project requirements into detailed drawings that support efficient manufacturing and high-quality fabrication. As in-house capabilities continue to evolve, this position will play an important role in supporting projects from initial concept through fabrication and delivery.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare detailed fabrication, shop, and assembly drawings for custom steel fabrication projects.
- Develop and maintain accurate 2D and 3D CAD models.
- Produce bills of materials, cut lists and fabrication packages for production.
- Interpret customer drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Collaborate with project managers, estimators and shop personnel to ensure drawings are accurate, practical and fabrication-ready.
- Revise drawings as projects evolve throughout the fabrication process.
- Ensure drawings comply with applicable industry standards and internal quality requirements.
- Maintain organized drawing revisions and project documentation.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to drafting standards and manufacturing efficiency.
- Assist with field measurements or site visits when required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technician, CAD Technology or a related discipline.
- Experience preparing fabrication or manufacturing drawings within an industrial environment.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, ProNest, or similar CAD software.
- Strong understanding of steel fabrication, welding processes and manufacturing practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience within mining, industrial manufacturing or custom steel fabrication is considered an asset.
Eligibility Information: Funding for this position may be provided through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC) under the Workforce Development Stream. To qualify for NOHFC internship funding, applicants must:
- Be new entrants to the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or unemployed/underemployed and entering a new field
- Not have previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Reside in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada
