Overview of role:
WestJet is seeking a Cargo Operations Supervisor to join our Toronto team. This individual can exhibit a high standard of excellence, enjoys challenges, and is results-driven. The incumbent must be highly motivated and demonstrate the ability to work in an agile environment.
Reporting to the Cargo Regional Manager, the Cargo Operations Supervisor will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of cargo through Toronto (YYZ) for WestJet. This Operations Supervisor will manage the company’s interests and provide oversight for performance, security, and compliance and act as the main point of contact for operational concerns/questions and will liaise directly with WestJet Cargo Sales Representatives and our service providers.
Key deliverables include:
Conduct regular audits on cargo operations including service partner performance, safety, security, regulatory and WestJet specific processes
Provide oversight of all aspects of belly and freighter cargo operations including service provider communication and follow up, airport facility concerns affecting cargo, cargo running operations, safety and security matters, customs inquiries, charters, etc.
Lead meetings with local service providers to ensure effective communication on all aspects of the WestJet Cargo operations in YYZ and act as the WestJet Cargo representative at local airport meetings when required
Assist the Regional Manager and support the service providers to ensure local KPI’s are met or exceeded
Assist the Regional Manager on cost reduction strategies and accuracy in monthly forecasting of the operation
Work with local sales representatives to ensure product oversight and customer service standards are met by local service providers
Assist in the coordination of required training for local service providers and the WestJet Cargo Trainer
Be the subject matter expert regarding the capture of evidence and reporting while collaborating on investigations with the Cargo Regional Manager, Operations Coordinators and the WestJet Safety team
Monitor compliance on corrective action plans required through investigations
Monitor quality cargo handling from warehouse to departure
Communicate process failures and other service issues to the service provider and ensure effective solutions are in place to mitigate future events
Experience and qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role including coaching, motivating employees and performance management is required
Minimum 3-5 years operations experience is required; Freight Forwarding, Trucking or Logistics experience is an asset
Strong interpersonal skills and excellent communication skills with the capability of establishing respect, trust, and credibility through actions
High degree of motivation and commitment to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Ability to influence others and get consensus through leading by example and promoting teamwork and collaboration
Available to work shift work, as required, in a 24/7/365 environment
Cargo warehouse experience is required (including wide body operations)
Must hold or be able to obtain a Restricted Area Pass for airside access
Must hold or be able to obtain an Airside Vehicle Operators Permit
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required
The following experience is considered an asset:
Dangerous Goods Category 6 training
Experience in air cargo security
ULD build training (must be within last 2 years to qualify)
Cargo charter / Freighter operations experience
Contract management and oversight experience
Experience in ground/ramp operations
