Position Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, and part of the Corporate Accounting team, the Accountant - Financial Reporting is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, general ledger management, internal controls, variance analysis and ad-hoc finance projects supporting the operations of the Refinery. The Accountant - Financial Reporting is a key member of the North West Redwater Partnership Finance Department.
Responsibilities:

Responsible for the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS, as well as MD&A and compliance packages;

Accountable for research and preparation of statutory financial statements and reports for filing with regulatory agencies based on application of relevant accounting standards;

Analyzes impacts of new accounting standards, reporting requirements, and regulatory standards on existing and new transactions;
-
Has ownership and technical authority on accounting for complex financial instruments, including but not limited to revenue recognition, asset retirement obligations and property, plant and equipment;

Assists in maintaining the overall integrity of the general ledger and supports month-end close process;

Liaise closely with overall Finance Department to ensure cross-functional cohesion and vacation coverage;

Coordinates and manages the external audit process;

Other responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:

Must be a team player: willing to continuously and proactively collaborate, share, and seek information and guidance;

CPA with experience in a financial reporting capacity within a public-issuer entity, joint venture, or partnership, is preferred;

Knowledge of Dynamics 365, and experience with system implementations considered an asset;

Strong accounting research and analysis skills (direct experience with IFRS 15 preferred);

Excellence and passion for financial reporting, keen attention to detail and accuracy, delivering the highest quality product to internal and external stakeholders;

Experience in understanding and interpreting complex commercial agreements in a joint venture, or partnership;

Ability to work within a team, and influence and share knowledge.;

Must have very strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to develop and articulate opinions and arguments;

Must be able to work independently and be flexible to changes as the business grows;

Must be willing to make decisions, in line with the processes and policies and have depth of experience to assist in the creation of policies and procedures;

Must be self-confident enough to seek assistance with difficult or complex issues.
