PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Yard Labourer / Driver is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, delivery, pickup, and preparation of rental equipment. This position plays a key role in ensuring equipment is rental-ready, customers receive excellent service, and all company vehicles and rental assets are maintained in a safe and professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance and Yard Operations
- Perform minor repairs and general maintenance on rental equipment.
- Inspect, clean, and prepare equipment for rental-ready status.
- Tag equipment as rental-ready following inspection and maintenance.
- Load and unload rental equipment safely and efficiently.
- Open and close the rental yard according to company procedures.
- Assist technicians, warehouse personnel, and counter staff as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in the yard and shop.
- Move damaged equipment to the designated repair area and properly tag for service.
- Report safety hazards, equipment damage, and maintenance concerns to management.
Delivery and Pickup Duties
- Deliver and pick up rental equipment in a safe, professional, and timely manner.
- Secure equipment during transport according to company procedures and inspect loads during transit when necessary.
- Verify all delivered items to ensure customers receive the correct equipment and accessories.
- Maintain accurate delivery, pickup, inspection, and collection records.
- Obtain customer signatures on rental contracts, delivery documents, and pickup forms when required.
- Notify supervisors or dispatchers of delays, delivery issues, customer concerns, or scheduling conflicts.
- Inform management of potential sales opportunities and new job sites identified during deliveries.
- Complete missing or damaged equipment reports and obtain customer signatures when required.
- Submit all completed paperwork promptly to Supervisor.
- Turn in all collected payments and documentation immediately upon return to the branch.
Customer Service
- Serve as a professional representative of the company at all times.
- Demonstrate equipment operation and safety procedures to customers.
- Familiarize customers with equipment features and proper usage.
- Start and test equipment with customers when required.
- Answer customer questions regarding rental equipment specifications and applications.
- Recommend equipment and related rental items that best meet customer needs.
Vehicle Operations and Maintenance
- Operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Carry a valid driver's license at all times while operating company vehicles.
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections, including checks of fuel, oil, fluid levels, lights, tires, brakes, and other safety systems.
- Complete required vehicle inspection documentation and submit it daily.
- Keep company vehicles clean and presentable, both inside and out.
- Report mechanical issues, accidents, dents, scrapes, or damage immediately to the Branch Manager or Supervisor.
- Never leave keys in vehicles or equipment unattended.
- Top off vehicle fluids as required and maintain accurate records.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Comply with all government safety requirements and industry regulations.
- Follow proper equipment handling, transportation, and yard safety procedures.
- Report all safety violations, incidents, and near misses to management.
- Participate in company, departmental, and safety meetings and training sessions.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
