Dates: July 2nd – August 21, 2026 (Mandatory Training: July 2 & 3)
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 hours between 7:30am–5:00pm
Overview
The Camp Lead is responsible for overseeing the entire summer camp program for children ages 4–12, ensuring a safe, fun, and engaging environment. The Lead manages the camp team, supports coordinators and counsellors, and ensures smooth daily operations, including pick-up and drop-off, program delivery, and activity planning. Staff must commit to working the entirety of the summer, no additional time off will be granted over the summer months.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervision & Safety
- Supervise all campers and staff during program hours, before/after care, lunch, and walking-distance field trips.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times, including daily facility and equipment checks.
- Assess and manage risks in all camp activities; react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
Program Delivery
- Collaborate with the Programs Coordinator and Community Engagement Manager to lead, plan, and administer camp programming.
- Plan, lead, and adapt weekly curriculum based on camp themes: Nature, Science, Drama & Arts, Music, Animals, Sports & Recreation, STEM.
- Assist staff in delivering creative youth programming and set up/clean program areas daily.
- Make accommodations for campers with varying learning needs.
Team Leadership & Communication
- Manage a team of 6 counsellors and 2 coordinators, providing guidance, coaching, and support.
- Ensure staff deliver daily programming on schedule and follow program policies.
- Document and communicate incidents or concerns with administration.
- Implement strength-based, positive communication with campers and families.
- Parent & Guardian Relations
- Communicate professionally with parents/guardians about campers’ experiences.
- Support staff in resolving conflicts and escalating concerns when necessary.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2+ years experience working with children or youth; school, camp/day program experience strongly preferred.
- Enrollment or completion of post-secondary program in education, social work, childcare, recreation, or related field preferred.
- 18+ years of age with valid Standard First Aid/CPR Level C.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; punctual, adaptable, self-motivated.
- Fun, energetic, and capable of managing a high-energy environment.
- Clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector search (within last 3 months of first day).
Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 7 weeks
Pay: $21.00 per hour
