About the Sunset Community
The Sunset Community is a leader in removing barriers which prevent those we support from having access to choices through our Person-Centered philosophy. We are dedicated to providing safe and supportive living, learning, and work environments so that each individual can live a personally satisfying and meaningful life.
As the NS Disability Support program moves from facility-based services to a future where all participants will live in their own homes in the community, our organization is also transitioning to community-based services offering more job opportunities for all including community based nursing. As such, we are committed to a successful transition from a centralized facility to community living, whilst simultaneously minimizing the impact to the individuals we support and/or employ. We have further partnered with the YMCA to provide on-site childcare, starting mid-2024, with 60% of the spaces reserved for children of our employees.
The Sunset Community operates out of Cumberland County, and includes an Adult Residential Center located on the Northumberland Strait in the picturesque village of Pugwash, Nova Scotia. Additionally, we also have two Social Enterprises, and an Independent Living Program that supports Participants to reside in our group-home or independently within the communities found in Cumberland County
