Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and caring Veterinary Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal care, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will support our veterinarians and RVTs to ensure the smooth operation of our clinic while providing exceptional care to our patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with routine and emergency procedures
- Prepare and maintain examination and surgical areas, ensuring they are clean and sterile
- Perform routine tasks such as taking vital signs, administering medications, nail trims, and drawing blood samples
- Assist with animal restraint and handling during examinations and treatments
- Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing them with information about their pets' health and treatment plans
- Manage and maintain medical records, including updating patient histories and documenting treatments
- Ensure that all medical equipment and supplies are properly sterilized and stocked
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional veterinary or medical training is a plus
- Minimum 1 year experience as a veterinary assistant or in a similar role
- Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a genuine passion for animal welfare
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle animals of all sizes and temperaments with patience and care
- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings and 1 weekend a month
