Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall performance of the Roofing Services division
  • Oversee the business administration of the Roofing department of the BC division of IRC Building Sciences Group
  • Be responsible for the day to day management of employees within the Roofing division, including Roofing Design Manager, Field Service Manager, field technicians, project managers, CAD technicians, spec writers and office staff
  • Manage employees, including annual performance reviews and career development plans
  • Provide ongoing monitoring and feedback for employees
  • Develop training plans for staff
  • Train and coach staff as required
  • Plan and manage staffing levels to suit business needs
  • Review timesheets to ensure accurate reporting and efficient use of employee time
  • Manage Business Development activities for Roofing projects and assist with other business development opportunities
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals, as required.
  • Contact architects, engineers, building owners and managers to offer services provided by IRC and provide pricing and assistance in completion of contracts and/or purchase orders.
  • Establish and maintain client relationships.
  • Perform evaluations, inspections and testing as required to produce condition analysis reports when required due to workload or complexity.
  • Provide technical assistance to field technicians and technologists.
  • Prepare pre-designs for delegated work, and prepare designs and specifications as required to accommodate work load or job complexity; directing appropriate staff to prepare drawings and assembly of documents.
  • Coordinate with other divisions to help provide cohesive designs and project management of multi-disciplinary projects
  • Coordinate all input for time billing and job costing
  • Prepare monthly updates for sales and production
  • Assist with safety initiatives and participate in the Safety Committee
  • Oversee the management of all roofing projects to ensure:
  • Work is completed on schedule
  • Field work is dispatched with sufficient detail, collected, filed and turned over to the design team
  • Communicate with clients and contractors as required
  • Oversee contract administration of the roofing construction contract
  • Oversee contract administration of the IRC / client contract
  • Manage the expense / time allocated to roofing projects, including reviewing cost reports as required
  • Develop and manage quality assurance processes to control the quality of all work produced.
  • Ensure WO’s are created in a timely fashion to facilitate efficient processes.
  • Ensure billing is completed in a timely fashion
  • Stay current on technical industry information
  • Actively participate in RCI, Inc.
  • Actively participate in RCABC committees
  • Continuing education development as required

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a roof consulting environment
  • Experience working with architects to provide design assistance with roofing assemblies
  • Red Seal TQ in roofing is considered an asset
  • Registered Roof Observer (RRO) is considered an asset
  • Post-secondary Engineering or Architectural degree or diploma is considered an asset
  • PMP designation is considered an asset
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to provide leadership to technicians
  • Excellent written, oral and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
  • Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • Self-motivating and ability to multi-task while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to act with business integrity
