We are currently recruiting for the position of Senior Legal Counsel, Wealth within our Law Department. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President & Senior Counsel, you will be a key member of the legal team providing support to our Canadian business units by providing practical and timely legal advice on strategic and tactical business issues. You will work closely with a group of legal professionals and business leaders on a range of securities and general corporate/commercial matters, including the preparation of prospectuses and other continuous disclosure filings, as well as advising on policy and regulatory matters, product development, and other areas relevant to our business. Your work will be wide-ranging and will provide the opportunity to develop expertise in dynamic practice areas. Contributing as a member of the Legal Team bringing your experience and creative legal skills to provide practical solutions to our businesses
Drafting disclosure documents and material contracts for retail investment products
Supporting new product development
Supporting institutional investment management activities in Canada and other jurisdictions
Contract negotiation (trading documentation, service agreements, other corporate contracts)
Regulatory review and analysis, including securities laws and other applicable Canadian and foreign legislation
Developing the legal structures for new and innovative investment products and services
Qualifications and Competencies:
Law Degree, Member of a Provincial Bar in good standing
5-10 years of relevant legal work experience at a large law firm or in-house
Experience with NI 81-102 mutual funds and other pooled funds, institutional investing, securities experience
Independent Review Committee experience considered a strong asset
Self-motivated with the ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Strong drafting, legal and communication skills with a practical solution-oriented approach
Demonstrated superior skill in drafting agreements or public disclosure documents
Ability to work independently to proactively bring projects to completion
Highly focused with attention to detail
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with experience simplifying and resolving complex problems
Superior organizational and time management skills with experience addressing multiple projects at once
