The Learning Disabilities Association of Ottawa-Carleton (LDAO-C) is seeking an enthusiastic and organized Summer Youth Program Coordinator to lead the delivery of our innovative summer employment readiness program for students in Grades 7–12 with learning disabilities and related challenges.
Project First Paycheque helps youth develop the skills, confidence, and knowledge needed to take their first steps toward employment. Through engaging workshops, mentorship, hands-on learning, and career exploration activities, participants build communication, teamwork, self-advocacy, financial literacy, and workplace readiness skills.
The Summer Youth Program Coordinator will oversee the planning, coordination, and delivery of the program, creating a positive and inclusive environment where youth can learn, grow, and thrive.
This role is ideal for someone with experience working with youth, strong leadership skills, and a passion for empowering young people.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and facilitate Project First Paycheque program activities and workshops
- Supervise and support program staff and volunteers
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support participants in developing workplace and life skills
- Communicate with families, community partners, and employers as needed
- Track attendance, program outcomes, and participant feedback
- Assist with program planning, logistics, and evaluation
- Promote positive participant engagement and success throughout the program
Qualifications
- Current enrollment in, or recent completion of, a college or university program related to education, youth development, social services, recreation, psychology, disability studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience coordinating programs, camps, educational activities, or youth initiatives is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple priorities, and contribute to the successful launch of a new program.
- Experience working with youth, preferably in educational, recreational, employment, or community settings
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Understanding of learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, or related exceptionalities is a strong asset
- Comfortable facilitating group activities and workshops
- Current First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check required
Position Details
- Summer contract position
- Program delivered in rotating sessions throughout July and August
- Location: LDAO-C Learning Centre, Ottawa
- Competitive salary based on experience
