Finance:
The bookkeeper/accountant handles all finance related tasks within the company. They will provide us with accurate quantitative information on financial position, liquidity and cash flows, while ensuring compliance with all tax and grant regulations. They must be competent and knowledgeable with auditing financial documents and procedures, reconciling bank statements and calculating tax payments and returns to align with the company’s philosophy to early learning. To be successful in this role, you should have previous experience with bookkeeping, with the ability to spot numerical mistakes. Some other assets to this position include experience as an accountant, hands-on experience with accounting software QuickBooks and Dext, and advanced MS Excel skills
□ Manage all accounting transactions
□ Monthly reports (Income statement, balance sheet, reconciliation of accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable)
□ Monthly reconciliation of bank and credit card statements
□ Maintain data feeds into our accounting software files (weekly)
□ Report on the company’s financial health and liquidity
□ Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary
□ Comply with financial policies and regulations
□ Ensure the bookkeeping system is accurate and up-to-date
□ Update chart of accounts
□ Manage BlueCross Benefits Account
□ Utilize childcare claims Portal to verify all government payments
□ Calculate and track accrued vacation and sick time or other benefits for staff
□ Verify, create, and send invoices to parents and/or to Government as needed
□ Ensure all families “Billing & Subsidies” are accurate and up to date
□ Ensure Tuition Plans in Software are inputted and up to date
□ Ensure all children are in their accurate Tuition Plans
□ Create/Update Fee Schedules and Tuition Plans as needed.
□ Process subsidy refunds to parents as needed
□ Ensure all excel sheets are up-to-date (Payroll, Child Income, and Income/Expense)
□ Submit Funding Applications (Contractors and Staff) as needed
□ Submit Childcare Program Adjustment Claims as needed
□ Make queries on the companies behalf to government officials regarding payments
□ Prepare financial statements
□ Calculate and Prepare Bi-Monthly Educator (Contractor) Payroll
□ Calculate and Prepare Bi-Weekly Staff payroll and remittances
□ Preparation of T4 Summary and Slips (Staff)
□ Preparation of T4A Summary and Slips (Contractors)
□ Preparation of T5 Summary and Slip (Owner/Shareholder)
□ Preparation of Annual Tax Receipt Summary (Parents)
□ Preparation and Filing of T2 Corporate Income Tax Return to CRA and other relevant authorities
□ Copy of Corporate Tax return provided to the Owner
□ Calculate Quarterly GST remittance
□ Ensure Payment Folders in Google Drive are up to date for all educators
□ Conduct a maximum of 24 hour response time to all inquiries form parents, educators, staff, and owner via email, phone call or other methods.
□ Preparation of Records of Employment (ROEs) for departing employees
□ Ensure that all information necessary to compile the company’s corporate income tax return are complete and accurate.
□ Ensure that all information submitted for filing undergoes a complete audit, review and verification for accuracy.
□ Provide tax and other financial advices and supports to the company
□ Representation of the company in front of the CRA to handle any of their reviews and requests for the filing year before their deadline.
□ Take time to understand the nature of accounting processes and establishing best practices for accounting procedures
□ Assistance with Grant writings and other financial loans and/or monetary requests
□ Perform other duties as required
□ Request training and support for any clarification needed
□ Work in collaboration with all staff members, contractors, and parents (clients)
□ Adhere to the highest level of confidentiality
□ Be competent with the company’s payment policies/procedures, the Alberta Child Care Grant Funding Program (contractors and staff), Child care subsidy, and the Federal-provincial child care agreement

Pay: $28.00-$35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 10 – 60 per week
