Job Summary
As a Clinical Counsellor at Foundry Penticton, you will provide intake, assessment, treatment, and crisis intervention services to people facing challenges, including social, psychological, emotional, and behavioral issues. This role is central to creating supportive and trusting relationships that reduce risk and promote positive choices. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based interventions and facilitate best practices such as the stepped model of care, trauma-informed approaches, harm reduction, and culturally safe services. The position requires strong clinical skills, adaptability, and a commitment to integrated, client-centered care in a dynamic environment.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Registration (or eligibility) with a recognized professional body.
- Experience providing counseling to youth and families using evidence-based approaches.
- Experienced in the use of screening and comprehensive assessments for mental health, substance use, suicide and high-risk behaviors using standardized frameworks and tools.
- Strong knowledge of community resources and collaborative care models.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
Required
- Cultural sensitivity and understanding of diverse socio-cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with harm reduction practices.
- Valid First Aid Certificate (with CPR)
- Successful completion of:
- criminal record check
- professional references
- Valid BC Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and clean driver’s abstract.
- Adherence to organizational policies, confidentiality agreements, and Code of Ethics.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- Knowledge of best practices in community health, including trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, stepped model of care, cultural safety, and family-centered approaches.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and negotiation skills, particularly with young people in the early stages of seeking help.
- Strong understanding of mental health and substance use, including current treatment methodologies, intervention strategies, the change process, and community dynamics.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to foster a positive and collaborative working environment.
- Thorough understanding of mental health and broader service systems.
- Experience in service improvement and/or program development activities.
- Ability to work cooperatively and constructively as part of a multidisciplinary team and with partner services.
- Strong adaptability to changing environments and ambiguity.
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
Key Responsibilities
Client Assessment & Intervention:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs using evidence-based tools.
- Develop and implement individualized therapeutic plans to support client goals.
Therapeutic Support:
- Deliver short-term (30–60 days), outcome-focused counseling to youth and families using appropriate therapeutic techniques.
- Provide follow-up support to monitor progress and well-being.
Collaboration & Referrals:
- Work closely with social workers, health professionals, probation officers, and other service providers to ensure integrated care.
- Connect clients to community resources as needed.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain accurate clinical records, document client progress, and prepare reports in compliance with organizational standards.
Program Development & Team Contribution:
- Participate in team meetings, conferences, and program initiatives.
- Contribute to policy development, evaluation processes, and continuous improvement of clinical services.
Professional Development:
- Engage in ongoing training and stay current with best practices in youth and family counseling.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other related duties as required to support the program and organization.
