Position Summary
D & I Wattam Construction is seeking a reliable and experienced DZ Driver to support daily construction operations. This role is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of aggregates, materials, and equipment to and from job sites.
The DZ Driver plays a key role in keeping projects on schedule by ensuring timely deliveries and supporting site teams as needed. This position is well suited for individuals who take pride in their work, demonstrate accountability, and are comfortable working in both driving and hands-on environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate DZ class vehicles, including dump trucks, to transport aggregates and construction materials
- Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Load, secure, and unload materials safely and efficiently
- Deliver materials to various job sites in accordance with schedules
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery slips, and required documentation
- Communicate with dispatch, supervisors, and site personnel
- Support general labour tasks on-site as required
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of assigned vehicle
- Follow company procedures and applicable transportation regulations
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA’s)
Knowledge:
- Understanding of Ontario road regulations and DZ licensing requirements
- Familiarity with construction site environments and aggregate/material handling
- Knowledge of vehicle inspection requirements and basic preventative maintenance
Skills:
- Strong driving ability with a focus on control and consistency when operating heavy vehicles
- Effective communication skills when coordinating with site teams and dispatch
- Ability to complete required documentation accurately and consistently
- Time management skills to meet delivery timelines and changing schedules
Abilities:
- Ability to work independently while maintaining accountability to schedules
- Ability to perform physical tasks including loading, securing, and unloading materials
- Ability to adapt to changing routes, weather conditions, and job site demands
- Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic
Working Conditions
- Driving: 60–70% of the workday
- Standing/Walking: 20–30%
- Manual Labour (loading/unloading): 10–20%
- Work is performed both on the road and on active construction sites
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, including:
- Hot temperatures (summer heat and direct sun exposure)
- Cold temperatures (winter conditions including wind, snow, and ice)
- Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment
- PPE required while on site
Requirements
- Valid DZ driver’s license (required)
- Clean driver’s abstract
- Dependable transportation to and from work
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role
Education & Experience
- 1–3 years of DZ driving experience preferred
- Experience in construction, aggregate hauling, or site servicing environments is considered a strong asset
- Experience operating dump trucks and transporting materials such as gravel, soil, or equipment
- Familiarity with job site navigation and working around heavy equipment
Pay: $23.50-$25.00 per hour
