The purpose of this role is to drive and implement programs to ensure a more robust, cost saving, efficient, and safety-focused plant maintenance system for our Concrete Products plants. The primary objective for this position is to create a proactive and preventative maintenance program.
Tracking overall maintenance costs, break down costs by categories like parts and assets, through the use of the software and pinpoint actions and assets that incur the highest costs. Meet repair deadlines and keep maintenance metrics (KPIs)
Find areas for improvement and focus on proactive maintenance strategies like preventive and predictive maintenance. This means, for example, looking for opportunities to bring work in-house (e.g.: hiring a certified mechanic instead of paying a contractor every time something breaks down). Innovate methods and equipment to improve safety and efficiency
Assist maintenance employees and subcontractors in the creation of Job Hazard Analysis for all maintenance functions
Schedule equipment’s preventive maintenance for the year in advance (E.g.: Oil changes)
Find training opportunities for current workers to avoid expensive third party services
Forecast inventory needs and decrease spare parts inventory costs
Organize personnel for daily maintenance functions and repairs. Supervise them for safety, quality, and productivity
Improve the onboarding process for machine operators so they have less chance of damaging equipment by improper use
Negotiate with maintenance vendors and spare parts providers
The Maintenance Manager, Concrete Products will have ownership over the following areas:
Labor costs / overtime (reactive Maintenance Work Hours)
Spare parts and materials
Maintenance and repair vendor costs
Unscheduled plant downtime
Contractor labor cost
Negotiation of parts pricing
# Direct Reports: 5 – Millwright, Electrician, Welders, 3rd class Power Engineer
# Plants/Operations: 3 plants with a total of approximately 85 employees
Annual Average Maintenance Cost - $1.9 Million CAD
Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
Journeyman Electrician or Millwright preferred
7+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
Leadership capability and good work ethic
Safety and Quality focus
Ability to function effectively in stressful situations
